NHS West Kent Primary Care Trust purchases MedeAnalytics' Clinical Commissioner business intelligence and analytics solution on behalf of the emerging Maidstone and Malling Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). |
|
The Maidstone and Malling consortium chose MedeAnalytics over the PCT's incumbent health information system (HIS), in order to achieve greater visibility of financial performance and ultimately enable better informed clinical and pathway decisions between its primary and secondary healthcare services, in line with the Government's Clinical Commissioning Group development and Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention (QIPP) programmes.
MedeAnalytics' Clinical Commissioner solution, powered by Pathway Solutions' validation module, will provide GPs and other stakeholders within the PCT and CCG with greater, more immediate, insight into charges they are given by hospitals for individual patient care, enabling them to match these with their own
records, then query, accept or reject the charges if there is a discrepancy. In doing so, Clinical Commissioner will help monitor utilisation and ensure accurate payment for services, saving the Trusts money and improving efficiency across local health economies.
Dr Thomas Reichhelm, Deputy Chair and Performance Lead, Maidstone and Malling consortium, explained: "With our previous HIS, we felt encumbered by the lack of direct input we had to the system. As a result, there was a disconnect between the accuracy and timeliness of the secondary and primary care data we received. Getting the insight we needed to improve our financial management and clinical healthcare pathways, was a cumbersome and time-consuming process – and as a result, there was very little buy-in from GPs across the region."
Dr Reichhelm continued: "We are however, as a consortium, completely dedicated to becoming an accredited CCG within the new NHS. As a relatively small group, this means that we need to be performing to the absolute best of our ability. Key to this is financial performance."
The consortium therefore took a decision to review solutions available on the market that could help it cost-effectively and readily achieve the depth of insight it required. Having done due diligence with West Kent PCT and GPs involved in the evaluation process, MedeAnalytics was unanimously selected as providing the most comprehensive capabilities that would meet the CCG' immediate needs for improved invoice validation, as well as on-going insight and intelligence to support clinical and pathway decisions.
Dr Reichhelm commented: "MedeAnalytics truly allows us to be closer to the data. As a solution, it is very intuitive and provides the information we need through quick and easy-to-run dashboards and reports. We have the buy-in from GPs in the 11 practices across the region and are convinced that this engagement will enable us to drive collaboration and shared insight."
"We saw through extended dialogue with MedeAnalytics and the reference sites we visited that the solution would ultimately enable us to get the data accuracy right for all the stakeholders, freeing us to focus on the intelligence and, critically, the delivery of improved healthcare pathways and services." |
