AKW launches intelligent shower for people with limited mobility and dexterity

AKW Medi-Care : 30 September, 2010  (New Product)
AKW, a provider of elderly and disabled bathing products, is launching the company’s first electric care shower at the Naidex South exhibition in London.
With four years of research and planning in its development, the LUDA Intelligent Shower includes a range of features specifically designed to make life easier for those with limited mobility and dexterity.

Carrying a comprehensive BEAB Care Approval and RNIB accreditation, it is also the first electric care shower on the market to have a fully-waterproof, IP45 rated shower unit, allowing worry-free showering even if water splashes directly on to it.

Working closely with the RNIB, AKW has refined the LUDA's features to suit partially-sighted users. An advanced thermostatic control, featuring audio bleeps, LED illumination and tactile control buttons give those with limited sight complete control over the power, temperature and water flow settings.

Designed to accommodate both standing and seated users, the LUDA features an extended hose length, easy to use push buttons to adjust the height of the shower head, soap dish and shelf.

The 1m riser-rail doubles as a grab-rail for additional security and a lever on the base of the riser-rail allows those with limited dexterity to easily adjust the direction of the shower head.

AKW is already a market-leading supplier of elderly and disabled shower, kitchen and bathroom products, though the LUDA is its first electric shower product.

Ruth Bury, Sales and Marketing Director at AKW, explained: 'As AKW's first electric shower product, we wanted to ensure that we got the LUDA exactly right - therefore a great deal of research, user feedback and consultation has been invested in its development”.

'We wanted to produce a shower that is safe, reliable, and above all easy to use, therefore every single feature has been refined to make it as user-friendly as possible for those with limited mobility and dexterity - and from the customer feedback we have received so far, our hard work has definitely been worth it.'

'We were also aware of the appearance of the product - just because you require an adapted product does not mean you should compromise on style. The LUDA's compact, sleek teardrop shape and built-in grab-rail means it is a stylish addition to any bathroom.'

With water economy in mind, the LUDA has three variable power settings and also has a two-year warranty for total peace of mind.
