EMIS GP appointment booking service is shortlisted for innovation award

EMIS : 17 July, 2007  (New Product)
The EMIS Access GP appointment booking service has been nominated for recognition at the 2007 Midlands Innovation Awards.
The project a partnership between EMIS, the North Staffordshire Health Informatics Team, DigiTV and Stoke on Trent City Council was one of 15 to be shortlisted out of 80 entrants.

The involvement of DigiTV and North Staffordshire Local Authority has ensured that 25 percent of patients in the region are now able to access their GP from home whether by internet or digital interactive television.

The innovative programme saw the North Staffordshire Health Informatics team, supported by their EMIS operations manager Angela Bath, visit practices to set up the EMIS Access system and train practice staff.

The system allows patients to make, cancel or amend GP appointment bookings and order prescriptions. As well as convenience and flexibility for the patient, the system saves time and reduces appointment wastage at busy practices.

The DigiTV programme is now being rolled out nationally opening up the possibility of digital TV appointment booking for any practice using EMIS Access.

Sean Riddell, EMIS Healthcare managing director comments: “Being shortlisted is a great achievement. Now that DigiTV has rolled out the technology across the UK, thousands more people will be able to enjoy the convenience of booking a doctor's appointment - at the touch of a button.”
