Franklin & Seidelmann acquires Apex Radiology to enter Full-Service Teleradiology Market

Franklin & Seidelmann Subspecialty Radiology : 24 October, 2007  (New Product)
Franklin & Seidelmann Subspecialty Radiology (F&S) has expanded its subspecialty teleradiology business model to now offer final and preliminary night time interpretations following the acquisition of Apex Radiology, Coral Gables, Florida, USA.
With the acquisition, F&S becomes the industry's largest teleradiology provider of final reports, as well as the largest subspecialty teleradiology provider. The company's annual case volume is expected to be more than 800,000 final reports.

F&S provides clients around the USA with a cost-effective strategy and flexible options to access subspecialty radiology expertise in the areas of musculoskeletal, neuroradiology, body, cardiac, oncological, paediatric and breast MR imaging.

The Apex acquisition adds considerable strength and resources to F&S, including the addition of 25 radiologists who provide night time final and preliminary interpretations to bring its total radiologist count to more than 100.

F&S will now provide its 250 clients with a combination of full-service teleradiology coverage and the subspecialty radiology expertise foundation that F&S was built upon.

Clients rely on the high quality, clinically specific reports and proactive consultations to help them improve referring physician satisfaction, increase referrals and revenues, gain a competitive advantage and optimise radiologist staffing costs.

'The decision to expand our scope of services was a natural evolution of our business and one that was in fact driven by our clients themselves,' explained F&S chairman and co-founder Dr Frank Seidelmann.

'We have built tremendous credibility as a provider of high quality final subspecialty interpretations delivered in a collaborative manner; it was a logical move to expand into night time coverage so that a radiology group or a hospital could experience the convenience of a full-service teleradiology provider and still receive a high level of quality for all their interpretation needs.'

Seidelmann added that F&S will introduce to its existing client base a new proprietary radiology workflow technology called AccuRad. This web based workflow portal will enable clients to manage report delivery via automated fax, online access, or encrypted email.

AccuRad also offers real-time status checking on reports and enables referring physicians to view reports and images. Future enhancements will include online order entry and referral volume analytics. In addition to AccuRad, F&S already provides its clients with support services such as credentialing, protocol training, professional billing and marketing.

Seidelmann noted that while his company has grown rapidly in recent years, from a small core group of subspecialty teleradiologists to today's market leader in final reports via its network of 100+ radiologists, its mission remains unchanged from when the company began in 2001- to provide the highest quality of radiology services to the healthcare community in order to improve the level of patient care.

'It is a powerful offering for clients to work with a single teleradiology partner, one able to provide subspecialty radiology expertise, daytime, general and overflow coverage as well as convenient after hours support,' added Seidelmann. 'Clients want flexibility, reliability, consistency and above all quality service from their teleradiology provider.'
