NRS launches brochure dedicated to dementia patients

Nottingham Rehab Supplies : 21 April, 2010  (Company News)
Nottingham Rehab Supplies chose Naidex 2010 to unveil a dedicated brochure the company has published that aims to help raise awareness about dementia and the range of equipment that can help improve the quality of life for sufferers, their families, friends and carers.
Dementia Care is a new 48-page publication that acts as a comprehensive guide to simple but effective solutions for problems that can be caused by dementia or may occur with ageing.

Claiming to be first dedicated publication of its kind, Dementia Care will see more than 200,000 copies being distributed nationwide.

NRS Brand Director Sandra King, said: 'Dementia awareness and care is a high priority on the current health agenda. The implementation of The National Dementia Strategy and the current NHS awareness campaign - The more we understand, the more we can help' - has certainly brought it to greater public and professional attention”.

'We felt we could do more to help explain that there are daily living aids and assistive technology available that can genuinely make a difference - hence the fact that we set about compiling our Dementia Care brochure.'

'We were very keen not to make it purely a product catalogue. It is far more than that, and we have tried hard to supply all the information that would be helpful to someone with dementia, their family, friends and carers.'

'The Dementia Care brochure sets out to improve that understanding with helpful tips and advice, plus contact details of helpful organisations like the Alzheimer's Society, Admiral Nursing Direct and carers associations.'

The Dementia Care brochure covers areas such as: Living with Memory Loss, Medication Management, Falls Prevention and Safety, Monitoring and Wandering, Eating and Drinking, In the Bathroom, Personal Care and Hygiene, Retaining Mobility, and Exercise and Therapeutic Activities.

In all sections, the purpose of each product featured is clearly explained, together with a recommendation from NRS, to assist those with dementia and their carers to make the right choice.

There is also an extensive section of Helpful Product Suggestions, which highlights solutions to common problems like leaving on the gas cooker, leaving the bath taps running, alerting the carer to a fall, helping the carer stay dry at bath time, assistance with dressing and grooming independently.

King added: 'I know from personal experience how dementia can impact on the individual, their family and friends, and this brochure aims to raise awareness of the products that can make life easier and safer for all concerned.'

NRS is inviting feedback to its innovative publication and plans a follow-up edition later in the year.

Batch quantities are available for local support groups. To request a copy of the brochure call 0845 1218114 (8.30am-5pm weekdays).
