ZixCorp's Email Encryption Service will safeguard the Protected Health Information (PHI) of Prime's patients and allow Prime Healthcare Services to comply with the updated Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Prime Healthcare Services (PHS), which, by and through its subsidiaries, owns and operates 13 acute care hospitals in California, was recently ranked as one of the Top 10 health systems in the country by Thomson Reuters. Prime Healthcare Services' management needed an email encryption solution that could scale across its large and growing network of 13 hospitals. Prime's management team was dissatisfied with the administrative burden of their previous email encryption solution. Prime conducted an exhaustive review of leading email encryption solutions and selected ZixCorp for its strength in healthcare and for the power of the ZixDirectory.
The need to protect email communication is intensified for healthcare organizations due to new HIPAA requirements that call for encryption of PHI while in transit. The new updates to HIPAA contained in the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act introduce significant new consequences for security breaches. The burden of breach notifications can be avoided through effective implementation of policy-based email encryption.
