Sicilian hospital is set to trial Agfa’s Orbis system

Agfa HealthCare Benelux : 23 October, 2007  (New Product)
Agfa HealthCare is preparing for an official trial project at the Vincenzo Cervello hospital in Palermo, Sicily that is expected to go live at the end of November 2007.
The project is sponsored by the Regional Health Minister of Sicily, Roberto Lagalla.

The trial project will focus on the installation of Agfa HealthCare's Orbis, its HIS/CIS solution (Hospital Information System / Clinical Information System) that manages the entire patient flow through all hospital departments. The goal of the project is to optimise the process of care and the efficiency of the hospital, both in terms of patient care and the communication among healthcare professionals.

The trial gives the Cervello hospital the possibility of testing the capability and the flexibility of Orbis, and its ability to integrate the existing information systems at departmental, as well as at enterprise level.

The Vincenzo Cervello hospital has 433 beds and will introduce the Orbis Ward Graphic and Medical Documentation modules, as well as specific OE/RR connections in a pilot department. The Chest Surgery department will be the focus of the trial. The use of these modules will enable the clinicians and nurses of the department to have real-time access to reliable patient clinical information, promoting rapid response rates and providing for real-time information updates.

Commneting on the project Regional Health Minister of Sicily, Roberto Lagalla, stated: 'By a trial cooperation between public healthcare and a private company, a first step has been made towards the global informatisation of healthcare services, the goal of this being to enhance the quality of care services on one side and to improve diagnostic confidence and patient comfort on the other.'

Francesco Falgares, CEO of Cervello Hospital, said: 'We are honoured that Cervello hospital has been selected for this trial project and we hope to be able to expand the Agfa HealthCare solution to the other units and wards in the future. I am convinced that this solution is easily applicable and exportable to the other healthcare enterprises of Sicily, helping us reach an important milestone in improving the technological and organizational aspects of our public healthcare.'

Arndt Lorenz, Agfa HealthCare's business operations manager HIS/CIS, commented: 'Agfa HealthCare's leading Hospital IT solution will enable the chest surgery department of Cervello Hospital to improve the quality of clinical documentation and to standardise the clinical patient folder, while at the same time maintaining the flexibility required within its medical specialty.'
