Ultrasound upgrade delivers high quality fetal heart scans for Hull hospital

Siemens Healthcare UK : 03 August, 2010  (Application Story)
Hull and East Yorkshire Women's and Children's Hospital, situated at Hull Royal Infirmary, part of Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, is now performing more varied, higher quality ultrasound examinations following the installation of an Acuson X300 from Siemens Healthcare to replace the hospital’s previous system.
The X300 is being used by midwives in the hospital’s Day Assessment Unit for fetal wellbeing assessments from 14 weeks gestation up to delivery. The X300 offers superior image quality and advanced technologies with a variety of transducers to provide clinical versatility and confident diagnoses. Midwives at Hull Royal Infirmary are using the system to scan a variety of fetal conditions, in particular cardiac. The X300’s AutoColour Technology, which optimises colour Doppler for varying flow states such as the uterine artery or fetal heart, is proving particularly beneficial. Prior to receiving the X300, volume and Doppler imaging in the department had to be carried out with two separate transducers, making examinations more time consuming and placing more manual strain on staff. The new Ultrasound system combines both functions in one transducer, saving time for both staff and patients and streamlining the imaging process. Staff in the Day Assessment Unit are also benefiting from the system’s range of ErgoDynamic features including a fully-adjustable 15-inch flat panel display and large onscreen fonts to reduce eye strain and improve readability. Furthermore, a height adjustable control panel increases system flexibility across many different users. “The new system has streamlined our imaging process as we now need to use only one transducer rather than two,” said Julie Lazenby, Antenatal Outpatient Services Manager at Hull Royal Infirmary. “The X300 is excellent and we have noticed a huge difference in the quality of images we are working with plus greater ease and simplicity during examinations.” “The X300 Ultrasound system provides the imaging performance needed to address a range of obstetric queries with greater ease,” said Peter Downing, Regional Sales Manager for Ultrasound at Siemens Healthcare. “Its superior image quality is supplemented by an advanced ergonomic design to minimise scanning discomfort and maximise efficiency.”
