Allscripts helps New York City Health and Hospitals to automate patient care management

AllscriptsMisys Healthcare Solutions : 24 May, 2007  (New Product)
New York City Health and Hospitals (HHC) has selected Allscripts' Canopy Care Management solution to help manage and coordinate care for patients throughout their hospital stay.
The largest municipal hospital and health care system in the country, HHC is a $5.4 billion public benefit corporation that serves 1.3 million New Yorkers and nearly 400,000 who are uninsured.

HHC provides medical, mental health and substance abuse services through its 11 acute care hospitals, four skilled nursing facilities, six large diagnostic and treatment centers and more than 80 community based clinics.

Additionally, HHC Health and Home Care provides health services at home for New Yorkers.

Following a competitive selection process, HHC will deploy Canopy initially at four New York metropolitan sites, with an option to extend the solution to all 11 of its hospitals.

The four sites, which together account for nearly two million annual patient visits, are: Elmhurst Hospital Center, a 556 bed facility in Elmhurst, New York; Queens Hospital Center, a 260 bed facility in Jamaica, New York; Woodhull Medical Center, a 371 bed facility in Brooklyn, New York; and Kings County Hospital Center, a 627 bed facility, also in Brooklyn.

Canopy streamlines and automates the care management process - utilisation, case management, quality management and discharge - and monitors each patient's length of stay and health status from admission to discharge.

A web based solution that leverages the Application Service Provider (ASP) model to minimise hardware and support requirements, Canopy can be installed and implemented in under 12 weeks and is available to end-users from any location with Internet access.

By standardising the patient care management process and enhancing the productivity of the care management team, Canopy has generated an immediate return on investment for more than 200 hospitals across the USA, including some of the nation's most prestigious medical institutions.

'We're pleased that Allscripts is the choice of the nation's largest municipal hospital and healthcare system, and we look forward to helping HHC enhance its operations for the benefit of all New Yorkers', said Glen Tullman, chief executive officer of Allscripts.

'Hospitals today need accurate, real-time information to provide the best possible care for their patients while more effectively managing their costs. Allscript's Canopy offering delivers that and more'.

HHC will interface Canopy with its other inpatient information systems, providing a real-time feed of essential patient clinical, financial and demographic information to inform the care management team, and will also have the option of providing information feeds to the Allscripts Electronic Health Records being used by ambulatory physicians across the state.
