Asteral launches new Equipment-as-a-Service solution for the NHS

Asteral : 19 June, 2012  (Company News)
Asteral is launching a new service offering that will help NHS Trusts to reduce equipment costs, enhance service quality and deliver improved patient outcomes.
Asteral's Equipment-as-a-Service (EaaS) offering has been developed to specifically cater for the needs of NHS hospitals today. It lowers the cost and complexity of equipment procurement and management and helps meet QIPP targets, delivering major efficiencies throughout the entire equipment lifecycle - from initial procurement and installation, to management, maintenance and decommissioning.

Based on a single, transparent, highly flexible contract, EaaS offers all the cost and continuity benefits of a traditional Managed Equipment Service (MES) contract. Trusts can access the equipment they need with no up-front cash investment based on predictable monthly costs. As one of the largest buyers of medical equipment in Europe, particularly computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners plus equipment for catheterization laboratories, Asteral offers significant cost savings in procurement and can reduce costs by 15 percent across the whole lifecycle of equipment.

EaaS offers hospitals end-to-end support for all equipment requirements but also the flexibility to adopt a single element - such as planning, procurement or management services - for a single piece of equipment or across its entire equipment portfolio. A range of options are built into EaaS contracts - from consolidating Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) support contracts to replacing equipment at the end of its lifecycle and incorporating the purchase and management of equipment consumables - helping Trusts realise additional cost and efficiency savings. Asteral also offers hospitals funding in order for them to achieve affordable solutions across the whole lifecycle of medical equipment.

Asteral's Chief Executive Officer, Christopher Langley said: "Increasing efficiency requires a radical rethink of how medical equipment is currently chosen, funded, managed and maintained - especially as current NHS procurement and maintenance practices remain disparate and complex".

"With Trusts taking on multiple solutions and support contracts from a number of suppliers, complexity and cost are increasing rather than decreasing. There is also a tendency to make equipment decisions based on initial pricing, rather than 'whole-life' costs, which means equipment is often much more expensive than anticipated over time".

"Asteral's experience and expertise in the marketplace, coupled with our ability to supply medical consumables such as contrast media, puts us in a unique position to cater for the needs of trusts today. EaaS enables us to offer a flexible range of services that work together or alone, delivering bespoke solutions to meet the specific needs, large and small, of hospitals today".
