Aurora Breast MRI Society is to partner China Medical Women’s Association

Aurora Imaging Technology : 17 September, 2007  (New Product)
The Aurora Breast MRI Society (ABMS) has announced a groundbreaking collaboration with the China Medical Women’s Association (CMWA).
Both organizations share a goal of improving breast cancer care in China and the USA and a professional exchange programme is the first curriculum currently being developed for this collaboration.

Research specialists from China will be sponsored to spend two-to-three weeks in leading comprehensive breast centres in the USA to learn about breast imaging modalities and their use in the detection, diagnosis and treatment monitoring of breast cancer. Boston based Aurora Imaging Technology has committed as the first corporate underwriter of the programme.

“There is an urgent need for more advanced breast imaging technologies among women in Asia, as breast cancer is now the leading cause of cancer death in women,” said Olivia Ho Cheng, president and chief executive officer of Aurora. “The objective of the Aurora Breast MRI Society in forging this relationship with the China Medical Women’s Association is to educate Asian physicians who have the greatest interest in furthering this cause by introducing them to the most advanced state-of-art technologies available, then return them to their own professional communities to educate other leading health care providers. Because we know this alliance with the China Medical Women’s Association will help save lives, we are proud to support this collaboration.”

“Breast cancer is emerging as the leading cancer for women in China,” said Dr Zi-yang Li, executive vice president of CMWA. “The challenge in China, with our high percentage of women with dense tissue, is to develop an effective way to earlier detect and better diagnose breast disease. We definitely need new technology, like the Aurora Dedicated Breast MRI System, to help us fight breast cancer in China. Teaming up with the Aurora Breast MRI Society will add great value to the Association and bring it to the next level. The ultimate aim of these improvements is to significantly improve the breast health of women in China.”

“Much like the Aurora Breast MRI Society, the China Medical Women’s Association is committed to improving women’s health in China and promoting and supporting continuing education,” said Dr Kamilia F Kozlowski, president of ABMS and medical director/CEO of the Knoxville Comprehensive Breast Center in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA.

“I cannot be more proud and encouraged by the progress that is sure to be made in improving women’s health through this groundbreaking partnership.”
