Baxa and Health Robotics form strategic alliance

Baxa : 08 November, 2007  (New Product)
Baxa and Health Robotics have announced a strategic alliance to automate the preparation of patient-specific chemotherapy drug admixtures.
Under the agreement, Health Robotics will optimise its technology for the exclusive use of the Baxa Two-Fer Needles in the automated vial and final containers' access steps for its CytoCare Robot.

Baxa Two-Fer Needles provide a unique design that can be used for vented or non-vented vial access.

Their Huber tip prevents vial coring, making it ideal for safe access; whether in an automated device or for manual preparations.

With its CytoCare Robot, Health Robotics has the first totally automated system for safe preparation of patient-specific hazardous IV doses.

'CytoCare constitutes a breakthrough advance for patient and clinician's safety', says Werner Rainer, general manager, Health Robotics.

'This alliance combines state of the art technologies to achieve the accuracy and sterility that providers require for automating patient-specific IV admixture preparations', adds Rainer.

The resulting technology is the only totally automated system for handling hazardous IV admixtures available in the market.

The strategic alliance fits with Baxa's mission of providing world class technology for pharmacy operations.

Greg Baldwin, chairman and CEO of Baxa notes, 'Baxa is pleased to have been selected by Health Robotics to utilise exclusively the Two-Fer Needle with the CytoCare Robot'.

'It is wonderful to see that the same features that made Two-Fer Needles the vial access product of choice with pharmacy staff worldwide are preferred for this new generation of pharmacy robots being pioneered by Health Robotics'.

Both companies will be exhibiting at the 2007 American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Summer Meeting, 24 to 27 June 2007 in San Francisco, California, USA.

Participants can learn more about the CytoCare Robot (Health Robotics booth 123) and Two-Fer Needles (Baxa booth 515) during the exhibit hours of the industry meeting.

Baxa provides systems and products that streamline pharmacy operations for oral liquid delivery, sterile IV preparation and mixing multi- source parenteral solutions.

The company's products provide solutions for enhancing patient safety, improving drug preparation procedures and reducing the opportunity for medication errors.
