Bluestar Silicones explores performance features silicone elastomer gels

Bluestar Silicones USA : 14 August, 2008  (Company News)
Dr Remi Thiria, Bluestar Silicones R and D team leader, is to make a presentation at the Medical Grade Polymers Conference that takes place in Philadelphia, USA from September 16 to 17, 2008 on a subject entitled: ‘Silicone Elastomer Gels: New Soft Adhesives for Wound Care’.
According to Dr Thiria, silicones offer a wide variety of molecular structures that provide differentiated performance features for wound care, scar management and transdermal drug delivery.

'Adhesive silicone gels are ideal for wound care and transdermal applications for their physical properties and inherent biocompatibility,' said Dr Thiria. 'The hydrophobic nature of these products enables gentle adhesion to dry skin without adhesion to moist skin, preventing secondary trauma to newly formed skin in a healing wound.'

In the presentation, Dr Thiria will explore new developments relating how linear viscoelastic response correlated to probe tack results can better control the performance requirements for wound care and transdermal applications.

At the conference Bluestar Silicones will also be highlighting its Silbione brand adhesive silicone gels designed specifically for the wound care and transdermal applications.
