CardiacAssist unveils five new TandemHeart Centres of Excellence

CardiacAssist : 21 April, 2008  (Company News)
CardiacAssist has placed the TandemHeart System at five new medical centres across the USA.
The five new TandemHeart Centers of Excellence are:

-- Advanced Perfusion Care, Pinehurst, North Carolina
-- Provena St. Joseph Medical Center, Joliet, Illinois
-- Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Sarasota, Florida
-- St. Joseph Hospital of Atlanta, Atlanta, Georgia
-- Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

More than 100 hospitals worldwide now use the TandemHeart System in the cath lab and/or operating room for extracorporeal circulatory support.

The TandemHeart System provides extracorporeal circulatory support through a percutaneous cardiac catheterization procedure or direct surgical placement in as little as 30 minutes. The resulting increase in blood flow is up to five liters per minute percutaneously or 8 LPM via surgical cannulation.

'We're pleased to have such prestigious cardiac care facilities join our centers of excellence that are now using the TandemHeart System,' said Michael Garippa, president and chief executive officer of CardiacAssist. 'The adoption rate for this technology continues to increase, and our commercial experience with the TandemHeart is on the way to 2,000 cases.'

Advanced Perfusion Care provides quality, comprehensive perfusion and auto transfusion services to hospitals throughout the USA.

In 2008, Provena St Joseph Hospital received a Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence from Healthgrades.

Sarasota Memorial Hospital is ranked among the Top 50 Community Hospitals as determined by US News and World Report 2007.

Temple University Medical Center is one of the premier academic hospitals in the nation and consistently ranks among the nation's top hospitals in the US News and World Report's guide to 'America's Best Hospitals'.

Saint Joseph's Hospital of Atlanta is a leader among Georgia health-care providers, respected for its expertise, innovation in health-care delivery and quality of care. The acute-care facility is recognized as one of the top specialty-referral hospitals in the Southeast.

The TandemHeart System is fully reimbursed by Medicare under existing DRG codes. The device can be placed rapidly in the cath lab or operating room, providing effective, reliable, temporary circulatory support. To date, the TandemHeart System has been used in 28 countries by 120 different facilities by 200 different physicians.
