Chilean hospital becomes first to implement Cerner Millennium HIT solutions

Clinica Las Condes, a private, 220-bed hospital in Santiago, Chile, has become the first in Latin America to implement a suite of Cerner Millennium healthcare information technology (HIT) solutions.
The technology will help Clínica Las Condes streamline operations in multiple areas of the hospital, while improving care for the more than 372,000 patients the hospital provides treatment for each year.

“Clinica Las Condes chose Cerner because of its commitment to helping its clients improve the quality of care they provide to patients,” said Helen Sotomayor Peragallo, Clinica Las Condes chief information officer. “We believe the Cerner Millennium solutions’ proven track record of helping clinicians improve care processes in inpatient settings will help us deliver world-class care to our patients in Santiago.”

Hospital administrators evaluated more than 354 criteria during the selection process. Clinica Las Condes chose the Cerner Millennium platform because of its clinical functionality, scalability, HL7 communication protocols, easy interface with existing systems and compliance with standards suggested by the Joint Commission.

Clinica Las Condes will be replacing its existing HIT products with Cerner Millennium solutions that will be used to automate nursing and physician documentation; operations in the emergency, pharmacy, surgery and registration departments; and medication-administration processes. These solutions operate on the Cerner Millennium architecture, a unified HIT computing platform that helps health professionals elevate safety, quality and efficiency.

With the implementation at Clinica Las Condes, Cerner will have Millennium clients on six continents. Clinica Las Condes will be the second client to use Cerner Millennium in Spanish, the first instance being the implementation at Marina Salud in Denia, Spain.
