The CIGNA Lifesource Transplant Network, which consists of more than 100 Centres of Excellence across the USA, has added the adult kidney transplant programme at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia to its network. |
|
“Our goal is to offer our members a strong, high quality network of providers. Sentara Norfolk’s addition to the transplant network demonstrates the quality of their adult kidney transplant programme and offers members access to the programme with coverage at the highest benefit level,” said Stephen Crawford, MD, medical director for the CIGNA Lifesource Transplant Network.
Crawford noted that Norfolk General’s experienced kidney transplant team performed 110 adult kidney transplants in 2006, the last year for which data is available.
To qualify for entry into the network, the transplant programme must meet established quality standards. A thorough quality review was conducted which included reviews of adult kidney transplant success rates, rate of re-transplantation, processes and procedures, and clinical and administrative staff qualifications.
The facility must also demonstrate that it provides appropriate ancillary services to help transplant patients and their families as they journey through the transplantation process and return to health.
“Sentara Norfolk is proud to meet the quality criteria required to be part of CIGNA Lifesource,” said Betty Crandall, RN, director of the organ transplant programme at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. “Now CIGNA members can benefit from the experience and dedication of our transplant staff. That way they can worry less about the financial aspects of transplantation and concentrate more on getting well.”
The growth of CIGNA Lifesource, with its individualized case management and benefits support components, reflects CIGNA’s efforts to provide access to holistic services for people who need complex medical procedures, such as transplantation. CIGNA members who choose to have their transplant at a Centre of Excellence may also be eligible for a travel benefit for themselves and a companion.
