Englewood Hospital becomes first to install Aurora Dedicated Breast MRI

Aurora Imaging Technology : 19 September, 2007  (New Product)
Aurora Imaging Technology’s Aurora 1.5Tesla Dedicated Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) System has been installed at the Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in New Jersey, USA.
Englewood’s Aurora System, the only Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared dedicated breast MRI system, is located in the hospital with easy access from the Leslie Simon Breast Care and Cytodiagnosis Center, which was awarded a federal grant as a national model for the diagnosis and management of breast cancer.

In keeping with its mission, Englewood Hospital selected the Aurora System due to its specific design for 3-D bilateral breast imaging, offering Englewood patients more accurate detection and diagnosis for the treatment of breast cancer.

“Patients at the Medical Center have had access to breast imaging services for the past few years with a whole body MRI unit,” said Mindy Goldfischer, MD, chief of breast imaging and associate director, Simon Breast Care Center at Englewood Hospital. “Aurora’s unique system of magnetic gradients and coils was designed to only image breast tissue. The exclusive design of this system tailors the examination to each woman’s specific breast composition. This means that the images are of the highest quality.”

Aurora offers a truly dedicated breast MRI system that captures full coverage of both breasts, the chest wall and axillae in a single scan, without any compromise in image contrast or resolution. The Aurora System also delivers industry-leading, ultra-thin 1mm slices for superior resolution and clarity, ideal for detecting cancers that may be missed through mammography or clinical examination.

“The Aurora System provides patients with the most advanced breast imaging technology in the fight against breast cancer and we are especially proud that, as a teaching hospital, Englewood Hospital has selected Aurora as the best technology for serving its patients’ needs,” said Olivia Ho Cheng, president and chief executive officer, Aurora.

“The Aurora System has a table design that provides a more complete imaging of breasts, optimises patient comfort, and minimises feelings of claustrophobia. These advances, combined with superior image quality, help to further differentiate already respected facilities like Englewood as a premier breast care centre.”

The Aurora 1.5T Dedicated Breast MRI System is designed to be located within the hospital where it is readily available to physicians and their patients. As a diagnostic imaging tool, the Aurora System is ideal for a wide range of indications in breast disease management including, but not limited to:

- Detecting or excluding the existence of cancer in high risk women
- Characterising indeterminate clinical or mammographically detected abnormalities
- Determining the extent of cancer for treatment planning
- Detecting occult cancer
- Evaluating patients for residual disease following surgery
- Monitoring cancer response and the extent of residual disease after neoadjuvant chemotherapy
- Evaluating Implant integrity and detecting cancer in women with breast augmentation
