GE Healthcare wins $30 million Canadian contract

GE Healthcare : 22 June, 2007  (New Product)
GE Healthcare is to provide more than $30 million in equipment and services to the Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre
GE Healthcare helped to identify the various needs of the hospital and meet them with equipment that is among the most innovative and technologically advanced on the market.

GE Healthcare's teams created a specialised package for Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre that included all needed products in one bundle, including transitional, educational and consulting services, helping the hospital to better streamline their operations, allowing staff to save time and bringing greater focus to frontline patient care.

The joint announcement was made by George Abbott, Minister of Health, British Columbia and Joe Sardi, country general manager, GE Healthcare, Canada.

Both recognised the leadership and hard work of the Fraser Health Authority, Provincial Health Services Authority, the BC Cancer Agency, Access Health Abbotsford, the private sector partner on the project, Partnerships BC and the Fraser Valley Regional Hospital District.

Equipment incorporated in the deal will aid Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre healthcare professionals in all facets of patient care - including physiological monitoring, surgical suites, cardiology devices, medical imaging and maternal and infant care.

Once completed, Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre will be a 300-bed facility offering the most advanced and specialised care in the region.
It is designed to serve the needs of the more than 150,000 people in the greater Abbotsford area as well as the 330,000 people in the surrounding Fraser Valley region.

'Clinicians here will be able to leverage this expertise when the hospital opens next summer'.

'GE will be in nearly every part of the facility, making Abbotsford one of the most innovative hospitals in British Columbia', said Sardi, country general Manager, GE Healthcare, Canada.

'The state of the art GE Healthcare technology spans all facets of patient care from advanced diagnostics to detect illness earlier, to surgical and cardiology devices to treat and manage disease, to infant warmers and incubators to comfort newborns'.

Created as part of GE's early health model, these products allow healthcare professionals to focus on early diagnosis, intervention and prevention of disease.

The aim is to help people live longer, fuller lives while decreasing the occurrence of unnecessary surgeries.

Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre will offer innovations including digital mammograms, CT, MR, mobile and digital X-ray units, complete physiological monitoring systems, telemetry systems and other wireless communication tools, gamma cameras, portable Ultrasound units, one bone densitometer, anaesthesia patient systems and portable vital signs monitors among other technologies.

GE Healthcare is also providing medical imaging management, physician information management and a full suite of surgery related solutions for the new facility.

'GE Healthcare is excited to partner with Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre', said Joseph Hogan, president and CEO, GE Healthcare.

'This association will expand GE Healthcare's presence in Canada while helping to better serve the people of British Columbia'.
