Health Quest selects Cerner to provide clinical information systems solutions for three hospitals

Cerner : 29 January, 2008  (New Product)
Health Quest, the largest healthcare system in New York’s Hudson Valley, has selected Cerner to be its clinical information systems solution provider
Health Quest plans to implement a suite of Cerner Millennium clinical solutions throughout its system of three hospitals.

'Cerner’s ability to integrate and update Health Quest’s current technology made the decision to implement the Millennium suite an easy one to make,' said Mike Weber, president and CEO for Health Quest. 'We anticipate rapid execution of this important project, which will place Health Quest’s hospitals and our affiliates at the forefront of patient care, safety and quality, not only in the Hudson Valley but in the nation.'

Health Quest’s implementation of a Cerner Millennium suite of solutions including PathNet laboratory system, PharmNet pharmacy system, PowerChart electronic Medical record and MillenniumPOC medication administration solution, replaces the health system’s existing healthcare information technology (HIT) products, enabling a more unified clinical automation approach.

The Cerner Millennium architecture is an HIT computing platform that helps health professionals elevate safety, quality and efficiency. To date, Cerner has more than 7,200 live Millennium applications at more than 1,200 facilities worldwide.

After evaluating offerings from multiple vendors, Health Quest leadership chose to implement Cerner solutions because of the overall value, functionality and workflow benefits that the unified Cerner Millennium system provides. Additionally, Health Quest is utilising Cerner Professional Services, which uses a single, standardised methodology known as MethodM. The methodology draws upon proven practices from a host of past client experiences. With it, the implementation team is able to deliver the intended outcomes of a project in less time, with less work effort, reducing the total cost of ownership.

The implementation team will also use the Cerner Bedrock system, intuitive wizards that use natural language, to help guide them through the process of designing, building and maintaining the Cerner Millennium platform. Health Quest’s implementation of Cerner’s clinical system suite will occur in its Northern Dutchess Hospital, Putnam Hospital Center and the Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

'We are thrilled to provide a full suite of clinical solutions to one of the most respected healthcare providers in New York State,' said Trace Devanny, Cerner president. 'We share Health Quest’s commitment to excellence in providing healthcare for its community by utilising the best IT solutions available.'

Health Quest is a 697-bed not-for-profit healthcare system that had more than 33,500 patient admissions and more than 95,000 emergency-room visits in 2006. Health Quest's hospitals have been recognised for a number of technology-related programmes, including medication bar-coding, an electronic medical records system in emergency departments, wireless communication devices and asset tracking systems.
