High speed micro machining units offer accurate laser cutting solutions

Swiss Tec Technology : 17 May, 2010  (New Product)
Swiss Tec, a leading Swiss provider of innovative solutions in ultra high precision machining, has developed two platforms for micro machining solutions: the Multi Flexi Tube (MFT) for tubes and Multi Flexi Sheet (MFS) for sheets.
Both platforms claim to be the fastest and most accurate laser cutting systems on the market, with repeatable positioning accuracy of 0.1- 0.01 (option) micron, minimum kerf width of 8-20 micron and cutting speed up to 3.000 mm/min (approx. 50 mm/sec). The platforms are mostly used for manufacturing stents, biopsy needles, special needles and hypotubes on MFT systems. The MFS-System is suitable for producing bone saws, bone plates and cardiac valves.

Swiss Tec's compact machining solutions are designed to minimise their system footprint to help improve the customers' workspace efficiency.

The compact machine design, which does not require an external control cabinet, complies with laser class 1 standards and saves expensive floor space and does not require special laser safety devices in dedicated laser workshops.

All Swiss Tec machines are modular and consist of a rugged granite frame and high precision components inside. Benefits of the system include simplicity in use, high accuracy in mass production, high speed machining and high output performance.

Swiss Tec’s innovative micro machining systems are able to use new materials such as bio-absorbable polymers, magnesium, glass and ceramic.

The pico laser has provided new possibilities, and the interaction between precise mechanics and optimised software has made outstanding cutting and surface quality possible.

The short pulse makes heat-affected zone irrelevant, which means that polymers, magnesium and other special materials can be processed.

The new technology also offers benefits for the traditionally used materials, such as stainless steel, nitinol, titan or chrome-cobalt. The benefits include nearly no burrs, no heat affected zone, and a significant reduction in costs and post processing time and efforts.

In addition to demo-machines in Austria and UK, Swiss Tec now has new reference sites in USA and China.
