Imaging expansion improves patient throughput

Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics UK : 25 July, 2016  (Application Story)
The speed of assessing patients at the accident and emergency department in Westminster hospital improves with the use of equipment from Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics
Imaging expansion improves patient throughput

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in West London has enhanced its provision of imaging services to ensure an efficient workflow throughout A&E as part of the first phase of a major redevelopment of the Emergency Department which includes a new imaging suite. New additions in technology from Siemens Healthineers include two Ysio Max digital X-ray systems; a SOMATOM® Definition AS CT within A&E; a Multix Fusion digital X-ray and a further Ysio Max in the Imaging Department.

Paul Hague, A&E Superintendent Radiographer at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital comments “The new systems from Siemens Healthineers will ensure the A&E department is efficient, can provide faster throughput and in turn shorter waiting times for our patients. We also anticipate an increase in uptime due to the modern technology and Siemens’ excellent customer support.”

Automatic Ortho and SmartOrtho packages on the Ysio Max systems will allow the hospital to perform long leg and whole spine imaging in A&E. Prior to this, all patients were transferred to the main imaging department as there was only one system available. Auto positioning, pre-programmed functions and increased automation is easing pressure on the radiographers and helping to ensure a smooth workflow.

Paul Hague continues, “The technology is very flexible and adaptable to a wide range of patient scenarios. But most importantly, it provides us with reliability and confidence in both system and supplier.”

Nichola Yates, Regional Sales Manager, London at Siemens Healthineers adds, “Chelsea and Westminster Hospital is a busy London teaching hospital with Foundation Trust status that delivers an excellent service for patients in the area. The new Siemens imaging systems in place are already simplifying processes for clinicians in A&E and give patients a better hospital experience. The improved image quality will also benefit clinicians and improve diagnostic confidence.”
