Ingenious Med provides practice management solution for the Kelsey-Seybold Clinic

Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, based in Houston, Texas, USA, has selected Ingenious Med's IM Practice Manager practice management software to automate the clinic’s in-patient charge capture and manage its hospital practices.
Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, a 330 doctor multi-specialty group, has already implemented the solution for their hospitalist and pulmonary divisions. Their future plans include continued expansion of Ingenious Med's application in 2008 into such specialty groups as paediatrics, neurology, oncology, gastroenterology, and endocrinology.

The goal of each of these divisions is to effectively manage their in-patient practices by accurately collecting billing data and properly submitting required codes in a timely manner.

'The Ingenious Med system is easy to use and ideal for big groups,' commented Dr Tony Lin, chief of internal medicine at Kelsey-Seybold, and Associate Medical Director of Hospital Services. 'We started out with a four month pilot and then surveyed our physicians. Everyone liked it ... even the non-computer-savvy physicians found it easy to use.'

IM Practice Manager is an internet-based rounding platform that enables inpatient physicians to capture charges, improve coding, and communicate digitally with their peers and attending physicians. In addition, the program aggregates practice data separately from the hospital information system, so individual hospitalist and total department performance can be accurately evaluated.

'The physicians like that it saves them so much time. Most physicians surveyed said that it saved them at least 30 minutes per day compared to previous paper billing and they can submit their bills from home,' said Lin. Aside from being pleased with the application, physicians are also coding more accurately.

Lin stated: 'The total collections went up, but this is not due to inflated charges. Charges are no longer being lost.' Because of IM Practice Manager, missed charges are now being identified and incorrect coding can be corrected easily.

Kelsey-Seybold has seen dramatic improvements in their billing department. 'Before Ingenious Med, only 50 percent of our bills were being sent within 10 days of encounter. After Ingenious Med, 100 percent of our bills are being sent out within six days,' stated Lin. 'The billers simply love it. It saves them a tremendous amount of time; bills are significantly more accurate and the data is clean.' IM Practice Manager has enabled Kelsey-Seybold to centralise their billing. Sixty physicians rounding at 18 different sites now submit their charges electronically to a single back office location staffed by only four billers.
