Inverness launches new drugs of abuse test kits to offer rapid results

Inverness Medical Innovations : 31 May, 2007  (New Product)
Inverness Medical has launched its SureStep Drug Screen Tests in response to the growing demand for improved drugs of abuse testing.
According to the United Nations (Ref 1), as many as 200 million people, or five per cent of the global population, aged 15 to 64, have used illicit drugs at least once in the last 12 months.

The SureStep Drug Screen Tests are a versatile easy to use panel of qualitative tests that detect a wide range of drugs of abuse, from ecstasy to cocaine.

SureStep Drug Screen Tests feature single and multiple panel tests, providing additional flexibility for targeted testing or the simultaneous detection of up to nine drugs with a single sample.

These can include TCA, amphetamine, MDMA (ecstasy), cocaine, morphine, THC (cannabis), barbiturates, methamphetamine, benzodiazepines and methadone.

Utilising Inverness Medical's pioneering and innovative lateral flow technology, SureStep Drug Screen Tests deliver rapid, accurate and reliable results in urine samples in as little as five minutes.

According to Inverness Medical's vice president international business, David Walton, the simple, one-step tests with built-in procedural controls are designed for use in virtually any test setting - for example at the point of care in emergency rooms and rehabilitation clinics: 'They also form a vital element in workplace assessments, occupational health screening and criminal justice systems'.

'Some idea of the scale of the need for testing comes from the US Department of Health and Human Services figures, which estimate that of the 17.2 million current illicit drug users aged 18 or older in 2005, 12.9 million (74.8 percent) were employed either full or part time.' (Ref 2).

SureStep Drug Screen Tests are available in 40 test kits (single panel) and 25 test kits (multiple panel) formats.

They have a long shelf life, multi-lingual instruction leaflets and can be stored at room temperature.
