IKS International : 29 May, 2009  (Special Report)
FOCUS ZONE REPORT IKS International based in Rosmalen, The Netherlands is introducing an innovative cooled 9 litre Personal Incubator that features a ventilated interior and good temperature distribution.
The device’s heating and cooling is performed using a Peltier element and the incubator’s temperature range is from +10 to +45 degrees Centigrade.

The new Personal Incubator is also designed for connection to IKS International’s XiltriX laboratory monitoring, data logging and alarming system. XiltriX can record and alarm the temperature of all laboratory storage equipment, in real time, 24/7, locally, via an internal network or via the internet. The system also handles many other parameters, for example door opening, pressure, CO2 and O2 with a number of different options for failure reporting and follow-up protocols.

Major teaching hospitals have been using the XiltriX system for many years. In these installations a number of departments and measuring points are registered and monitored by a connection to a single server. Sensor data can be collected through a mix of wired, network and wireless connections and accessed simply by logging on to the system via the intranet or internet.

A recent addition to the XiltriX capabilities is an innovative CO2 sensor which adopts a novel approach to user communication by making use of SMS technology to register and communicate with the system.

The new sensor is ideal for any laboratory needing to audit the performance of its equipment or the security of stored materials, especially if operating under GLP or GMP procedures.

Developed by IKS International , XiltriX has an established user base of around 65 systems, monitoring as few as four separate sensors or as many as 2500. Users include major teaching and general hospitals, IVF clinics, pharmacies, blood banks, the food industry and commercial laboratories.

Monitoring and reporting the status of storage devices such as refrigerators, incubators (including anaerobic) and freezers is a key requirement. Parameters like temperature, humidity, door opening, pressure, flow and CO2 levels can all be monitored and recorded from multiple sensors, results logged and reported, and alarms generated if necessary.

The system, which can monitor the stored product as well as the equipment itself, can also be used to monitor the efficiency of the storage equipment to see how quickly a freezer or incubator recovers to its set temperature after a door opening event which can also give advance warning of equipment failure.

XiltriX is available in wired or wireless configurations. Alarm situations are reported via interactive SMS message, conventional audible or visual alarms, or by automated electronic routes like e-mail and telephone. XiltriX can be connected to a building monitoring system. Out-of-hours, authorised users can access the system remotely to investigate alarm situations. The suppliers offer a complete calibration, validation and auditing service to support each installation, including the IQ and OQ processes, and the equipment is fully 21 CFR part 11 compliant.
