Lahey Clinic uses Orion's Concerto medical applications portal to view integrated patient data

Orion Health : 24 April, 2007  (New Product)
The Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts, USA, has selected Orion Health's Concerto Medical Applications Portal to provide an approach to ensure clinic staff have quick and easy access to patient data from a variety of applications for clinical decision-making.
By choosing Orion Health's Concerto Medical Applications Portal, Lahey colleagues will be provided with a solution that moves beyond simple Single Sign-On (SSO) password management capabilities to present a completely unified view of patient data that resides on disparate applications throughout the clinic's facilities.

“Using Concerto, physicians will be able to perform highly customisable searches to quickly locate the data they need to perform clinical assessments,” said Nelson Gagnon, CIO, Information Services, Lahey Clinic. “Having the data they need in a single, unified view means the physician has a complete view of the patient's history and current status at their fingertips.”

The web-based system will also allow clinicians to securely share selective data with other facilities for the purpose of communication or consultation. Since the data never leaves Lahey Clinic's system, privacy and security are ensured and access is completely controlled by Lahey Clinic.

“By leveraging our technology, community hospitals and physician offices in the area will be able to join us in a health information exchange that ultimately improves care for patients,” said Gagnon.

At Lahey Clinic, more than 430 physicians and 4,466 nurses, therapists and other support staff work together in a multidisciplinary approach that allows patients access to preeminent physicians from virtually every medical specialty. Specialists in different areas and in different sites cooperate to develop personalised treatment plans for each patient. A key requirement for Lahey in purchasing a portal solution was the ability to integrate data from best of breed applications across the various disciplines.

“Lahey's approach is an example of how leading institutions are integrating their technology investments further in order that patients and health care providers receive the full benefit that technology and data-sharing can provide,” said Paul Viskovich, president Orion Health North America.

“We're pleased to be working with such a prestigious organization and helping them realise their innovative perspectives on clinical care,” added Viskovich.

Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington, USA, encompasses an ambulatory care centre serving more than 3,000 patients each day and a 317-bed hospital. Lahey Clinic Medical Center , North Shore , in Peabody , serves more than 800 outpatients each day and includes a 10-bed hospital. Both feature 24-hour emergency departments, and an American College of Surgeons verified Level II Trauma Center is based at the Burlington facility.
