Limited Use Connector provides cost-effective solution for disposable medical devices

Fischer Connectors : 22 September, 2008  (New Product)
Fischer Connectors has designed the new Fischer LUC (Limited Use Connector) for disposable medical devices to provide a cost-effective solution for high quality connections.
The connector is fully compatible with high cycle lifetime cable receptacles.

Unlike similar disposable connectors, LUC connectors are fully intermateable with the standard range of Fischer 104 series brass bodied receptacles. Rated at 5,000 matings, these allow permanent equipment, such as the power supply or control unit, to maintain a high cycle lifetime. This compares well with regular cable assemblies which either require disposal after single usage or provide far fewer mating cycles, typically 500 to 1,000.

Fischer Connectors has engineered the LUC to take advantage of high volume savings while still offering proven reliability, contributing to the competitive pricing and high performance necessary for disposable medical devices.

Multiple configurations are available for a wide array of applications, from catheters to surgical hand tools and more. The plug can either be directly mounted into a disposable hand piece, or over-moulded with the user’s own choice of mould. Both configurations can be easily customised and are ideal for compact designs.

A third option is to mount the plug to a disposable cable, either with a one-piece back shell for simple and economic designs or a two-piece back shell with snap-lock design for easy assembly. The two-piece back shell model offers additional features such as an ergonomic rubber grip, standard or custom colour options, and space to easily accommodate embedded electronics, for instance to disable the connector at a preset number of uses.

Parts are capable of withstanding EtO and Gamma sterilisation processes, conforming with the requirements of the UL/IEC 60601 directives.

Accepting a maximum cable diameter of 8.7mm, the LUC is available from 2 to 19 pins with solder or crimp contacts.
