Naidex to host wheelchair forum

Naidex : 27 January, 2014  (Company News)
The National Wheelchair Managers Forum will provide information, seminars and advice as part of Naidex National at Birmingham's NEC
Naidex to host wheelchair forum

Wheelchair managers and OTs are set to benefit from free seminars, advice and research on wheelchair provision and standards, following an exclusive partnership between Naidex National and the National Wheelchair Managers Forum (NWMF).

This new exclusive partnership follows the increasing demand for advice and information on mobility products, with nearly 2,400 visitors interested in powerchairs, scooters and buggies, and over 2,300 visitors interested in manual wheelchairs.* The NWMF lobbies for better standards in wheelchair provision, provides training and maintains national wheelchair management standards.

The show celebrates its fortieth anniversary this year as the UK’s largest independent living event aimed at healthcare professionals, trade and the general public. It incorporates the UK’s largest free to attend conference for health and social care professionals and takes place at the NEC Birmingham from 29 April to 1 May 2014 (www.naidex.co.uk). Over 10,000 visitors are expected to attend over 70 seminars in the conference and meet more than 300 exhibitors.

For the first time in Naidex’s history, the NWMF will curate two seminars in the Multidisciplinary Theatre. Jenny Rolfe, senior occupational therapist at The Oxford MND Centre will lead one. The NWMF will also hold its Annual General Meeting at the show this year on 29 April where members and non-members will be able to hear the chair’s report on progression in wheelchair services and product development for 2013. Furthermore, the NWMF will present its latest landmark paper at the conference, detailing the Foundation Competencies for Wheelchair Therapists.

Krys Jarvis, chair of the NWMF said: "The partnership with Naidex National marks a new phase for the National Wheelchair Managers Forum. In an increasingly competitive industry, we're ready to have a stronger voice and an AGM that's bigger and better.”

“Naidex is the perfect opportunity for us to present the work we've been doing, particularly the wheelchair provision standards we've developed, which are at the core of our organisation and the recently published Wheelchair Therapist Competencies. We're looking forward to having the chance to influence key areas related to wheelchair provision at the show and developing targeted content at the conference," added Jarvis.

A trail highlighting wheelchair exhibitors will also be created at Naidex National in association with the NWMF to help visitors to easily source new wheelchair suppliers.

Naidex showcases the widest range of equipment manufacturers who use the show to demonstrate new, innovative products. Key exhibitors for 2014 include AKW, Joerns, Abacus Healthcare, Roma  Patterson Medical, ETAC, Ottobock, ArjoHuntleigh, Electric Mobility and Kirton Healthcare. Key partnerships for 2014 include the British Healthcare Trades Association (BHTA), the College of Occupational Therapists (COT), the Disabled Living Foundation (DLF), the National Register of Access Consultants (NRAC), the Centre for Accessible Environments (CAE) and Foundations.

Naidex National 2014 is also partnering with the College of Occupational Therapists (COT) to create the new COT Zone, which will provide three days of CPD accredited seminars to registered attendees across two theatres.
