New blood glucose monitoring system offers diabetics greater control

AgaMatrix : 06 March, 2008  (New Product)
WaveSense Europe has launched the WaveSense Jazz Blood Glucose Monitoring System (BGMS) that has been designed to help people with diabetes gain tighter control over their blood glucose levels.
In addition to requiring no code and having some of the world's largest backlit digits on a BGM, the Jazz is one of the first meters to provide a glycaemic variability value. Glycaemic variability is a tool used to show how glucose changes over time and may allow the patient or their health care professional to better analyse high and low readings and take preventative action.

'I'm thrilled to bring our flagship product to the UK diabetes community,' said Claudio Carboni, managing director of WaveSense Europe. 'This market demands innovative, high accuracy, and high quality BGM products and I feel that WaveSense Jazz is well-positioned to advance the quality of diabetes care.'

Like all the company's BGM systems, Jazz features WaveSense, a new technology that personalises each test to provide world-class accuracy. WaveSense detects and corrects for errors caused by different environmental conditions and blood samples.

'There's plenty of research showing the need for improved glucose control, especially for those on insulin,' said Dave Conn, chief commercial officer of WaveSense and former president and chief executive officer of Hypoguard. 'WaveSense technology finally gives those with diabetes the accurate glucose measurements they need to act with more confidence.'

Other features in the WaveSense Jazz include:

- Wireless version: A special wireless version has Bluetooth connectivity for automatic secure transfer of glucose results.

- Predictive mealtime tagging: Smart pre- and post- meal tagging (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and nighttime) allows the patient to easily tag their results based on their personal schedule without having to go through complex menus and navigation.

- Positive feedback: Alerts the user if their blood glucose result is within their pre- and post meal target range to encourage tighter control. The user or their healthcare professional can easily change the target ranges.

- Large memory: 1,865 memories for an average of over five memories/day for a year.
