New Equipment-as-a-Service solution helps reduce costs for the NHS

Asteral : 19 November, 2012  (Company News)
Asteral is offering the NHS an affordable means to install the latest equipment, plus savings up to 15 percent on equipment and maintenance bills, thanks to its new Equipment-as-a-Service (EaaS) approach.

The latest Nuffield Trust Report, entitled, 'Can NHS Hospitals Do More With Less?', highlights the need for hospitals to adopt new technology as a means to enhance outcomes and reduce costs. Although it acknowledges, "the NHS purse strings are being tightened” the report finds that, “technical change is the most important determinant of improvements in healthcare and hospital productivity in the medium to long term".

Asteral's team of experts actively monitors global markets for medical technology, ensuring hospitals have access to the latest equipment without having to find the initial capital investment. EaaS offers cost savings at every stage of the equipment lifecycle, from procurement and financing, to management, ongoing maintenance and decommissioning. The EaaS provides a simple, flexible and risk-free solution that enables hospitals to pass full responsibility for equipment planning, procurement and management to a vendor-independent service provider.

The fully managed approach provides lower whole-life costs than traditional methods of procurement (such as leasing and capital procurement with added maintenance contracts). Its maintenance service, Asteral Protect, consolidates a hospital's existing maintenance agreements into one contract delivering immediate savings. Offering a single point of contact for all maintenance calls, Asteral Protect ensures that faults are resolved quickly and efficiently so that equipment is available when required, allowing clinicians to focus on patient care. Asteral delivers industry beating equipment uptimes in excess of 99 percent.

Christopher Langley, Chief Executive Officer at Asteral, said: "Hospitals today need access to the latest technology in order to deliver a high level of service and optimal patient care. The new report from the Nuffield Trust rightly points out that access to the latest technology plays a vital role in a hospital's productivity and, despite the tough financial climate, the installation of new equipment must continue. Equipment-as-a-Service provides a simple and value for money solution, providing finance, maintenance, planning procurement, turn-key installation and decommissioning as a simple one stop service".
