New generation macerator features hands-free lid opening mechanism

Vernacare : 30 June, 2008  (New Product)
Vernatech, part of UK owned Vernagroup, has introduced the new Vortex macerator which is designed to help advance infection prevention in hospitals around the globe.
The macerator takes hygienic single-use pulp disposal into a new era – combining improved infection prevention features and ease of use with fast cycle times, reliability and excellent environmental performance.

The pioneering new Vortex has an anti bacterial deodoriser which cleans inside the macerator at the end of the cycle and assists in improving the sluice room environment. The macerator also combines a new hands-free lid opening mechanism, which is another crucial innovation in infection prevention.

The UK engineered system, which is designed to work with sister company Vernacare’s single-use pulp products, will process four items of pulp in just two minutes – using a cold water cycle to disintegrate the used pulp and wash the tiny, biodegradable fragments down the drain with the wastewater.

Vortex has been trialled at seven hospitals in the UK, Europe and Australia over the past eight months where ward evaluation has been extremely positive. 84 percent of ward staff reported that the new hands free opening device saved time, while 88 percent believed that the new macerator could reduce cross infection, and 90 percent of nurses found it easy to operate.

Vernatech’s UK engineered and manufactured macerators are used by more than 85 percent of UK hospitals, and the new Vortex system builds on 40 years specialist in-house experience and advance skill in macerator development.

“We have sought the views of clinical specialists around the world in developing Vortex”, said Sara Scott, director of Vernatech. “Those who have seen the new macerator are excited by its improved infection prevention features and reassured that it is developed and built by Vernatech which has such a strong engineering pedigree and track record of reliability and back up support”.

“Vernagroup has been helping to advance infection prevention around the globe for more than 60 years, where the name is synonymous with quality and customer care. Vernacare is the global market leader in single–use pulp products, and the Vortex is the latest in a range of innovative products launched by the group.”

Vernatech provides full support to healthcare professionals specifying the Vortex macerator - through its UK-wide team of highly experienced business development managers and engineers. This ranges from initial discussion of requirements, through planning and installation - followed by a full package of servicing and maintenance options to keep the Vortex in optimum condition.

Free training is available as standard for ward staff on the correct use of the macerator, and for maintenance staff on basic maintenance work.
