New high sensitivity microscope camera captures low-noise fluorescence images

Carl Zeiss MicroImaging : 20 November, 2007  (New Product)
A new monochromatic AxioCam HRm Rev.3 microscope camera has been introduced by Carl Zeiss specifically for use in fluorescence microscopy.
The primary application for this camera is for live cell imaging research but it also works great for general fluorescence imaging. Thanks to its high end 1.4 megapixel sensor, the camera features high sensitivity and extremely low noise.

The AxioCam HRm covers a wide range of applications so users only need a single camera instead of having to rely on multiple specialised camera models.

The AxioCam HRm provides maximum sensitivity with a high dynamic range and fast camera readout and in conjunction with a Carl Zeiss Microscope system enables users to take multidimensional images of even the weakest fluorescence signals including dynamic processes. The AxioVision imaging software permits 3D visualization of image stacks and sequences as well as qualitative and quantitative analysis.

The readout speed of the Axiocam HRm is variable between 12.5 and 25 MHz this gives the flexibility to either use it for high speed imaging of up to 48 images/s or for low noise imaging allowing for maximum sensitivity at a dynamic range of 1:2500 resolvable with 14-bit digitization.

A special NIR mode allows for increased sensitivity in near infrared. Further benefits include the possibility to capture high-resolution images with up to 4164 x 3120 pixels using new very fast microscanning (usable with stable specimens), automated recording of colour images using RGB filters in the filter turret of the Microscope (optional accessory) in combination with the multi-channel fluorescence module and the possibility of recording fast sequences using the digital high-speed recorder module of the AxioVision software.

All camera parameters can easily be optimised for various Microscope applications and contrasting techniques. The improved live image speed of up to 31 images/s allows for easy sample location and focusing. Using the fast acquisition module of the Axiovision software the AxioCam HRm can be used to record very fast one or three dimensional sequences.

The full benefits and capabilities of the AxioCam HRm Rev.3 are utilised when it is integrated into a complete live cell imaging systems from Carl Zeiss, such as the AxioVision CellObserver HS for fast, multidimensional images and physiological experiments.

A colour version of the camera with up to 13 mega-pixels per colour channel is also available for high-resolution images of colour objects.
