New infection control tape aims to offer value for money

Vernacare : 20 June, 2007  (New Product)
The new Vernaclean Indicator from Vernacare has been designed to achieve higher standards of infection control and boost public confidence.
Feedback from hospitals using the Vernaclean Indicator, which proves the cleanliness of hospital equipment, shows that it is assuring patients of good standards of hygiene and providing 'visible evidence of best practice occurring'.

The Indicator tape, which is now available via NHS Supply Chain in single roll size, can be placed across a variety of equipment after cleaning to reassure both patients and staff that satisfactory hygiene standards have been achieved - helping to reduce the risk of infection and improve cleaning compliance. The Indicator is an innovation in infection prevention.

The Indicator is typically used on commodes, drip stands, beds, hoists, wheelchairs, trolleys, baths, toilets, lockers and walking aids, but its flexible design means it can be used on many other items of hospital equipment.

Adhesive strips enable staff to simply attach the Indicator to equipment and they can write their name and the date of the clean onto the tape to demonstrate to colleagues, auditors and managers that equipment is evidently clean.

Lesley Webster, sales and marketing director for Vernacare, said: 'For as little as one pence per single use, the Vernaclean Indicator instils a powerful sense of public confidence in hygiene standards and reduces the likelihood of cross-infection'.

'When you consider that the average case of C-Diff is estimated to cost 4,000 and add an average 21 bed days - this simple, but pioneering product represents excellent value for money'.
