New microscope offers adaptability to address various applications

Carl Zeiss MicroImaging : 02 July, 2008  (New Product)
Carl Zeiss has introduced the Axio Scope.A1 microscope to address routine applications and entry level research in the life sciences.
Customised configurability and adaptability to specific requirements allow the Microscope to be used in various fields. These include pathology, histology, cytology, microbiology, environmental research, molecular biology, plant physiology, development biology or genetics. The system permits the utilisation of such different contrasting methods as brightfield, darkfield, phase contrast, fluorescence, DIC (Differential Interference Contrast) and the PlasDIC technique developed by Carl Zeiss. This is available in an upright routine Microscope for the first time.

Users can choose between 15 stand versions and eight Vario stand configurations. Additionally, they can optionally attach a large number of components: from a retrofittable camera port and a 2-position reflector slider to a 4 or 6-position reflector turret for fluorescence. The fully integrated LEDs for fluorescence are a further innovation. Their characteristic features include a long service life, excellent image contrast and ease of use. The long life span of the LEDs additionally reduces running costs.

The Microscope can be used with traditional cameras, all cameras of the AxioCam line and AxioVision image processing software.

The modular design allows users to configure the system with exactly the functions they need for their current task. If these requirements change, the system can be upgraded at any time.

Axio Scope.A1 offers other superb features: with ISCP (Infinity Space Camera Port), it has a tube-independent camera port for transmitted light applications which can be retrofitted at any time. In transmitted light, the LED illumination ensures homogenous illumination of fields of view of up to 23mm with constant color temperature.

The newly developed ergo-stage permits the user to mount and lock the stage drive along the y axis in exactly the position he or she finds most comfortable and convenient. The Microscope offers an extended specimen area which is adjustable for specimen heights of 0 to 110mm.

The Vario stands are available for even larger specimens of up to 380mm. The new N-Achroplan objective series is flattened for a field of view of 23mm in accordance with the ISO standard and is suitable for a large spectrum of applications.
