New PACS system from Carestream provides native 3-D imaging

Carestream Health : 11 June, 2007  (New Product)
The latest Kodak Carestream PACS that offers optional integrated applications such as image fusion and orthopaedic surgical templating is now available worldwide from Carestream Health.
The PACS also offers native 3-D imaging and advanced cardiac features.
The company is accepting orders for its newest PACS platform, which will begin shipping by the end of June 2007.

The built-in dynamic streaming capabilities of the Carestream PACS make advanced functionality readily available to authorized users inside and outside the institution by allowing clinicians to review the first images in an exam while the rest of the study is being transmitted.

In addition, a new licensing structure allows facilities to purchase optional features according to the number of concurrent users, so these tools are not restricted to specific workstations.

Purchasing this functionality as part of the Carestream PACS is more cost effective than implementing independent imaging systems and delivers enhanced productivity since radiologists do not need to leave their desktop or application to use these features.

The newest version of Carestream PACS includes the following options:
Native real-time 2-D and 3-D capabilities including MIP (maximum intensity projection), MinIP (minimum intensity projection), MPR (multiplanar reconstruction), volume rendering, tissue definition and vessel tracking functionality from a single virtual desktop.

Specialised cardiac functions including:
Cardiac review and analysis; cardiac cage removal in 3D imaging; and cardiac calcium scoring.

These functions equip radiologists with tools that help with analysis of cardiac CT (computed tomography) imaging exams.

The PACS also features bone/cage removal to enhance viewing of other structures and vessel analysis enhancements (including extended stenosis marking) that are used with CT exams of arteries and veins throughout the body.

Native single media archive (CD or DVD) that includes shelf management support to benefit small sites that desire a low cost solution for data backup and archiving.

Additional native features for the Kodak Carestream Mammography Workstation include an image map, automatic chest wall justification, enhanced annotation capabilities and the integration of Confirma Carestream software for breast MRI exams and Cedara B-CAD software for breast Ultrasound exams.

The mammography workstation is capable of displaying images from all modalities for mammography and general radiography exams.

Enhanced Orthoview 4.0 orthopaedic digital planning solution that includes support for specialised surgical templates for trauma cases; and Integrated Siemens Medical Solutions' FUSION7D Software that delivers enhanced visualisation of cancerous tumors and lesions.

This software automatically overlays and registers image data from PET, CT, SPECT and MR systems, allowing oncologists better visualisation of anatomic and metabolic information to more confidently assess tumor volumes and disease progression.

The newest version of Carestream PACS also offers a licensing structure that sets pricing for features and functionality based on the number of concurrent users.

This provides increased flexibility since users can access desired tools on any remote workstation, while adding affordability since institutions pay for the number of concurrent users and not for the number of workstations where the features can be employed.

Kodak Carestream Solutions offer a full portfolio of products and professional services including radiology information systems and expanded storage and archiving solutions.

Kodak Carestream PACS provides a flexible architecture that addresses the diverse operational needs of clinics, imaging centres, hospitals and healthcare networks, including orthopaedic, mammography and oncology facilities.
