New single-use measuring jug measures prevents infection and cuts costs

Vernacare : 06 November, 2007  (New Product)
A new single-use measuring jug has been launched by Vernacare that is designed to prevent infection, save nursing time and also cut costs.
The new jug is the first medical pulp product to integrate a level indicator, eliminating the need to use a dipstick to measure fluids. A new ergonomically designed handle has also been introduced to provide improved grip.

“Medical staff around the country are concerned about the infection risks posed by plastic products,” said Lesley Webster, sales and marketing director for Vernacare. “Our new, improved disposable jug helps promote cleaner, safer hospitals.”

She explained: “We have introduced the changes in response to customer feedback. As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, we regularly review our products to ensure that they meet the precise needs of medical staff. The new style jugs have been trialled in four hospitals and have been very positively received.”

The 1.3 litre Vernacare jug is ideal for measuring urine, carrying fluids around the ward, and emptying Catheter bags, stomas and drains. Made entirely from recycled newspaper, it is an environmentally friendly product which is maceratable after use, disintegrating with the cold water process to wash down the drain with the wastewater.

Vernacare, which is a top 30 NHS supplier, has been at the forefront of medical pulp innovation for the past five decades producing 140 million pulp single-use products each year. The company also manufactures and supplies the industry’s leading macerator (Vernacare V2020), which is used by 85 percent of UK hospitals.
