New St John Health Novi Hospital opts for Mediware's blood transfusion software

Mediware Information Systems : 27 March, 2008  (Application Story)
Providence Hospital of Southfield, Michigan, USA, has licensed Mediware's HCLL Transfusion Blood Management software for use in its new St John Health Novi Hospital site.
St John Health Novi Hospital, which is scheduled to open in July 2008, will be a teaching facility with 200 private rooms. It was designed as a centre for advanced thinking, treatment and practices. St John Hospital, Novi will be supported by relationships with some of the healthcare industry's leading scientific and medical innovation partners.

More than 300 top tier healthcare facilities have licensed HCLL since it was introduced in 2003. HCLL Transfusion, Mediware's next-generation transfusion management system, helps manage blood products administered to patients at hospitals and centralised transfusion service facilities. The rich clinical features of the product address all phases of transfusion-service activities for large hospitals with more complex blood management requirements. HCLL also automates the manual and potentially error-prone process of making bar-coded labels for blood products, now mandated by guidelines from the FDA.

According to John Damgaard, Mediware's senior vice president and chief operating officer, HCLL is designed to manage blood products administered at hospitals and centralised transfusion service facilities. HCCL is a powerful software tool for managing a hospital's blood supply and maximising the safety, efficiency and productivity of the entire transfusion process.

'Blood products inventories and administration processes must be tightly controlled and monitored to ensure blood and patient safety,' said Damgaard. 'They are monitored from donor to recipient but the data gathered throughout the process isn't valuable unless it can be captured, extracted and communicated. That's why leading health systems rely on HCLL to efficiently manage, track and report blood products to ensure transfusion safety.'
