Northampton General Hospital invests in icardiovascular mage management

Agfa HealthCare UK : 20 June, 2007  (New Product)
Northampton General Hospital (NGH) NHS Trust has ordered Agfa HealthCare's Cardiovascular Image and Information Management solution to meet the increased patient demand.
The NGH's echocardiography team is under constant pressure to perform more than 6,000 echoes annually using three echocardiography machines.

The new system from Agfa HealthCare will enable significant efficiencies in the way the team is able to access, analyse and report echocardiography imaging data.

The system will also integrate this information with equivalent data from virtually any connected cardiovascular imaging system, including those from cath labs and nuclear medicine.

The NGH is a district general hospital serving a local population of more than 360,000 residents, with 14 operating theatres and more than 600 beds at a 44 acre site, located close to the town centre.

The echocardiography team performs both adult and paediatric echo examinations and recently sought to update its image management utilities.

They required a more robust system (their legacy system was prone to occasional failures) that could streamline daily operations and support remote heart failure clinics in the community.

After a rigorous selection process, Agfa HealthCare's Cardiovascular Image and Information Management solution was chosen as the preferred solution.

The cardiovascular solution connects to all major cardiac X-ray and Ultrasound systems using industry-standard DICOM communications protocol.

The system creates a central repository of digital images from multiple modalities together with associated physicians' findings reports.

The Encompass Report system for echocardiography then provides a seamlessly integrated clinical results utility, based on the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) recommendations for echo report elements and includes all TTE, TOE and paediatric reports.

The system's DVD archive is also ten times faster than competing technologies, with scaleable capacity to store from 5,000 to more than 100,000 cardiac cases on site.

In addition, by eliminating the costs associated with film processing, storage and retrieval, the filmless Encompass system helps hospitals to realise significant savings in their annual operating costs.

For remote access, web reporting allows users to log-on to the system from any authorised PC to manage reports and review imaging data Trust-wide.

Commenting on the order, Peter Corscadden, technical sales consultant - Cardiology at Agfa Healthcare, said 'We are very pleased with the decision made by the NGH to select Agfa HealthCare's Cardiovascular Image and Information Management solution to meet its echocardiography imaging needs'.

'This system will help ease the substantial reporting burden of their busy echocardiography teams and enable them to interlink with other imaging systems from across the Trust'.

'We look forward to working with their staff, helping them to optimise their daily routines and offer patients improved quality of service'.
