Ottobock opens mobility and bespoke seating manufacturing facility in Leeds

The facility will serve UK and international markets providing bespoke seats for wheelchair users with complex needs, which are moulded to their body shape for comfort and prevent further deterioration of physical deformities.

The company has migrated its entire mobility and bespoke seating manufacturing from Germany to Leeds in a £1 million investment in the local area, creating local jobs in the process.  New equipment and a new warehouse all form part of the investment at the facility, which also has responsibility for research and development into bespoke seating for the whole global Ottobock group. The specialised wheelchair seats produced in Leeds are being supplied to the NHS, as well as to European and Australasian customers.

"Leeds has always been an important centre for manufacturing, so it is good news that an international company like Ottobock is moving part of its operations from Germany into our city," said Rt Hon. Hilary Benn, MP for Leeds Central. "They will be making hi-tech moulds for wheelchair seats, and this investment will support Leeds's growing reputation in the field of medical engineering."

"We are grateful to Hilary Benn MP for opening our new facility in Leeds, which underlines Ottobock's commitment to investing in people and the local economy," said Philip Yates, Managing Director at Ottobock UK. "In addition to creating local jobs and manufacturing solutions that are used across the country and beyond, we believe the facility’s responsibility for R&D in bespoke seating further emphasises that our British engineers continue to lead the way in the world market, providing comfort to patients with complex shapes and needs."
