PeaceHealth selects Mediware's HCLL for transfusion blood management

Mediware Information Systems : 19 March, 2008  (Company News)
PeaceHealth, a network of community-based health care facilities serving Washington, Oregon and Alaska, has licensed Mediware's HCLL Transfusion Blood Management software product.
PeaceHealth has a reputation for being an early adopter of systems and structures that promote quality health care and maintains a strong commitment to maximising patient safety. PeaceHealth's health system traces its origin to 1891 when the Sisters of St Joseph of Peace founded St Joseph Hospital in Bellingham, Washington, USA, in 1891.

HCLL Transfusion, Mediware's next-generation transfusion management system, manages blood products administered to patients at hospitals and centralized transfusion service facilities. The clinical features of the product are used to address all phases of transfusion service activities for large hospitals with more complex blood management requirements.

According to John Damgaard, Mediware's senior vice president and chief operating officer, more than 300 top-tier healthcare institutions have licensed HCLL since the product was commercially released. From donor to recipient, HCLL tracks and monitors blood products administered at hospitals and centralized transfusion service facilities.

'HCLL is a powerful software tool for reducing transfusion errors, enhancing patient safety, managing the hospital's blood supply and maximising the efficiency and productivity of the entire transfusion process,' Damgaard said. 'With an increasingly diverse array of products in blood-bank inventories, there is a critical need for clear, clinically relevant and reportable information communicated in a closed loop.'
