Radiology of Tucson implements interactive speech recognition solution

MedQuist : 07 March, 2008  (New Product)
Radiology of Tucson, Arizona, has selected MedQuist’s SpeechQ for Radiology as its front-end interactive speech recognition solution.
Radiology is one of the largest physician-owned practices in Tucson, with more than 45 radiologists processing more than 1,000 patients per day in its fully digital network.

According to Chip Hardesty, executive director of Radiology, 'We looked at a number of options for speech recognition, and our radiologists saw SpeechQ as the most accurate technology, which would mean less editing. We also felt that SpeechQ offered the best alignment with our other technology development plans.'

SpeechQ for Radiology is tightly integrated with the Amicas Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), which Radiology currently uses. The integration allows for improved workflow for the radiologists by streamlining the transfer of information from Amicas directly to SpeechQ for Radiology.

Radiology is also currently migrating its Radiology information system (RIS) to Amicas.

'The support of virtualisation technology in SpeechQ version 1.2 is going to be a big plus for us, as it will allow us to save money and resources, as well as have a failover strategy that works,' said Hardesty. 'We process 200,000 reports annually; with SpeechQ, we hope to end our reliance on outsourcing above and beyond our own transcriptionists. We know SpeechQ can get us there and help realise our return-on-investment goals.'

Chris Spring, MedQuist senior product manager for Speech recognition Solutions, noted, 'With its completely digital practice of radiologists who are spread out geographically, Radiology found SpeechQ for Radiology to be a natural fit. We look forward to working with this forward-thinking organization.'
