Royal Devon and Exeter Wonford Hospital installs Acuson S2000 ultrasound unit

Siemens Healthcare UK : 11 September, 2008  (Application Story)
The Centre for Women’s Health at the Royal Devon and Exeter Wonford Hospital, part of the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust, has installed a Siemens Acuson S2000 ultrasound system in its obstetrics department.
The Acuson S2000 delivers superior imaging quality and is ergonomically designed for ease of use. Used in conjunction with the syngo Auto OB application, the equipment is used to assist the busy obstetrics department with foetal measurements and nuchal translucency scanning.

The S2000 is the first of a new generation of premier Ultrasound products from Siemens. The system features knowledge-based workflow drawing on an expert database of real clinical cases to recognise anatomical patterns and perform automatic measurements. This aids diagnosis, speeds up examinations and helps keep patient appointments on schedule. The Acuson S2000 also features superior image quality. Optimised for high-frequency imaging, it delivers superb 2D, 3D, Colour and Pulse-wave Doppler and 4D imaging to provide diagnostic confidence for the best possible outcomes.

The syngo Auto OB application on the S2000 is used to automate foetal measurements. The software creates semi-automatic biometric measurements of the foetus and can save 75 percent of the normal operation steps in a routine examination. Examination times are therefore quicker whilst also delivering more accurate data.

“We are finding the new system’s auto measurement features very useful, especially when an accurate measurement of a head circumference or abdomen is required,” stated Dr Helen Liversedge, associate specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology Ultrasound at the Royal Devon and Exeter Wonford Hospital. “The equipment provides excellent image quality and has potential to help the department by speeding up scans and patient waiting times.”

“The Acuson S2000 and syngo Auto OB application can significantly improve the efficiency of Ultrasound scans by providing more accurate and consistent data,” stated Andrew Pattison, director of diagnostic Ultrasound and women’s health at Siemens Healthcare. “In addition to speeding up patient examination times, the equipment provides a powerful solution to improve the accuracy of examinations. This is important in the field of obstetrics.”
