Siemens launches first digital X-ray unit with a wireless detector

Siemens Healthcare Deutschland : 16 November, 2007  (New Product)
Siemens Medical Solutions has launched its first digital X-ray unit with a wireless detector - the Ysio wi-D.
The system is designed to deliver increased flexibility in examinations and enhanced comfort for patients.

Traditionally, X-ray detectors converting radiation to digital images are integrated into the examination table. The Ysio wi-D frees itself from convention offering wireless removal from the table for positioning underneath or next to the patient.

Exposures that are difficult or impossible to take using a permanently integrated detector can now be taken without difficulty. A case in point would be lateral exposures of the hip. Furthermore, patients with restricted mobility can be X-rayed in a wheelchair without requiring transfer onto the table.

The wireless detector transmits image data to the diagnostic workstation via WLAN. The detector can be used just as flexibly as a cassette in analogue X-ray systems but is a digital X-ray imaging alternative.

Digital X-ray systems offer a number of advantages when compared with film or imaging plate X-ray systems. However, flat detectors permanently integrated into systems cannot be used as flexibly as cassettes and cabled, mobile flat detectors still remain ‘tied’. The new Ysio wi-D X-ray combines the advantages of the flat detector with those of the cassette.

The Ysio wi-D is a totally redesigned X-ray system where the overhead support, the examination table and the Bucky wall unit are specially aligned to digital X-ray imaging. With over 7 million pixels and a pixel size of 144 micrometres, the detector supplies images of excellent quality within seconds after exposure. The enhanced DiamondViewPlus software optimises the detail contrast and noise level of the images to enhance the quality further.

The Ysio wi-D also assists in streamlining routine daily work. The system can move to as many as 1,000 different positions automatically at the push of a button, according to the set organ programmes. Fixed obstacles located in the room, for example a washbasin, can be smoothly circumnavigated. The settings stand can be changed quickly and easily on the colour touchscreen display of the tube assembly plus a remote control enhances the system’s ease of use.

The Ysio wi-D offers extended versatility in imaging and assists in reducing patient examination times. This then results in an increased daily throughput.
