Siemens Managed Equipment Service wins plaudits from Worcestershire Royal Hospital

Siemens Healthcare UK : 28 August, 2008  (Company News)
The long term Managed Equipment Service (MES) partnership between Siemens Healthcare and Worcestershire Royal Hospital has scored highly in a customer satisfaction survey regarding the helpdesk and maintenance service provided.
As the partnership approaches 10 years, the annual evaluation shows scores of over 93 percent for good to excellent performance, testimony that close working between Siemens and the Trust is still continuing to flourish. Worcestershire Royal Hospital is one of Siemens’ largest MES sites, signed in 1999 under a 95 million, 29-year Private Finance Initiative. The vendor independent agreement looks after the replacement and maintenance of around 7,000 assets including imaging equipment and PACS.

Worcestershire Royal Hospital staff rated the helpdesk provided by the Siemens MES at 94 percent for good to excellent service. The helpdesk is a vital day-to-day resource should any equipment break down or have problems. Fast and efficient customer service provided to hospital staff ensures the swift resolution of issues leaving the hospital free to focus on patient treatment concerns.

Trust staff also scored equipment maintenance provided by the MES at 93 percent. Promptly sending out trained engineers or spare parts to fix equipment is another important service that an MES oversees. Any equipment downtime can be resolved quickly by a qualified engineer or via remote diagnostic tools ensuring equipment uptime is kept to a maximum, minimising disruption caused to waiting lists and patient treatment plans.

Rachel Lownds, a surveyed member of staff in the A and E department at Worcestershire Royal Hospital described the Siemens MES as, “excellent as ever, the most efficient service in the hospital.”

“We are delighted that the important maintenance aspects of the Worcestershire Royal Hospital MES are meeting needs in a well above average way,” stated Paul Milligan, head of PFI and major projects at Siemens Healthcare. “Financial pressures, treatment targets and patient choice are challenges facing NHS Trusts today. An MES provides a strong and positive approach that delivers process and workflow improvements for a fixed budget. Maintaining equipment uptime and expanding access to modern technology is crucial in delivering the highest standard of care to patients and smoothing daily roles for clinical staff.”

Siemens Healthcare is the market leading provider of Managed Equipment Services to NHS Trusts. It offers a vendor independent and multi vendor approach despite being a manufacturer and provider of medical solutions. Customer sites are given an informed choice on what equipment replacement and renewal path to take as part of a stable, long term approach to managing technology and financial planning. Having access to the expertise and technology that only a medical manufacturing company has provides customers with access to not only leading edge developments but also in depth analysis of patient workflow to ensure cost efficient and effective use of technology.
