Spire Healthcare selects Siemens CT and MRI systems to expand diagnostic services

Siemens Healthcare UK : 21 April, 2008  (New Product)
One of the leading independent hospital providers in the UK, Spire Healthcare, has ordered six Siemens MRI and three CT scanners as part of the drive to expand its range of diagnostic imaging services.
The Magnetom Avanto MRI and Somatom Definition AS CT Scanners will be installed at a number of Spire Healthcare sites across the UK to provide permanent scanning facilities. Previously the hospitals used mobile equipment one or two days a week.

“Spire Healthcare is a forward looking company and our investment in medical equipment reflects our business philosophy and our pursuit of excellence on providing premium, private healthcare. We need the latest diagnostic imaging technology to meet the ever increasing demands of our customers to position Spire Healthcare positively in a competitive marketplace,” said Rob Roger, chief financial officer. “Siemens’ innovations are of a high standard and offer extensive clinical capabilities. The recent purchase of Avanto MR and Definition CT equipment is part of an overall 10 million investment programme in diagnostic imaging equipment and facilities that will enhance the capability of Spire Healthcare to meet increasing customer expectations both now and into the future.”

The order includes three Somatom Definition AS CT scanners, the first of which will be installed at Spire Norwich Hospital, a BUPA-accredited bowel cancer centre of excellence that also specialises in orthopaedic surgery. The CT scanner has a unique Adaptive Dose Shield that blocks unnecessary radiation ensuring the patient is only exposed to a clinically relevant dose. The system produces clear images whilst eliminating spiral artifacts, ensuring high quality definition of bone and soft tissue. The system can adapt to any patient or clinical need in routine diagnostic work and complex examinations in cardiology, neurology and oncology.

Six MagnetomAvanto 1.5T MRIs will be delivered to Spire Healthcare sites including Spire Southampton Hospital, Spire Portsmouth Hospital, Spire Cheshire Hospital and Spire Roding Hospital. The systems will provide detailed image results to enable a flexible approach to examination procedures. The Magnetom Avanto offers whole body coverage with no patient repositioning to ensure a smooth examination. An inviting design and ultra lightweight Tim matrix imaging coils are designed to produce high resolution imaging and a comfortable patient experience in potentially shorter times, reducing anxiety for those with claustrophobia and ultimately ensuring better results.

“Siemens is delighted to be a part of the expansion of Spire Healthcare’s diagnostic services,” said Vince Golledge, regional sales and corporate business manager at Siemens. “Reliable and high quality imaging equipment will enhance the permanent MR and CT scanning facilities for Spire Healthcare across the country. The Somatom Definition AS and Magnetom Avanto are highly advanced and efficient systems that will maintain Spire Healthcare’s first-class patient service.”
