Stonewood unveils new series of healthcare data protection seminars

Stonewood : 25 March, 2008  (Company News)
Stonewood Electronics, the leading designer and manufacturer of encrypted hard drives, is launching a series of seminars addressing how healthcare IT professionals can avoid costly data breaches, meet regulatory compliance requirements, and select the right tools to safeguard patients’ records.
Recent high-profile data breaches underscore the importance of data loss prevention technologies and strategies. David Nicholson, NHS chief executive, has revealed guidelines to protect sensitive information. However, Stonewood believes that the current guidelines alone are not enough and that hardware encryption, authentication and firm rules around implementing data encryption programmes are critical to ensure patient information is only available to the correct people.

Most of the information that is lost today is not as a result of attacks at all, it's as a result of information simply being mislaid or lost. Unlike software encryption, Flagstone protected devices also bring security to a PC’s sleep and off modes. If the PC enters sleep mode, or is turned off, hardware encrypted devices become protected, requiring re-authentication when the PC is powered up again.

Flagstone’s Fully Encrypted Hard Drives combine advanced whole disk encryption with expert authentication, ensuring that, in the event of the computer being stolen or illegally accessed, all the data saved to the computer and held on the hard drive remains inaccessible to unauthorised users.

Stonewood chief executive officer, Brendan Forster said: “We know only too well how often data goes missing, often damaging hospitals’ or trusts’ reputations as well as patient security, and, conversely, how simple steps can ensure that data is managed and controlled.” Forster added: “We hope our seminars will be a useful resource to healthcare IT professionals, helping them ensure data security while improving workforce mobility.”

Attendees will learn:

* How data loss prevention has become one of the most affordable ways to ensure patient privacy and meet regulatory compliance requirements.

* Fundamental processes that need to be in place to secure data at rest.

* Data loss prevention processes and data loss prevention software used in the industry to maintain privacy and security and enhance workflow for all healthcare personnel.

* Avoiding data loss and how best to react should the worst happen.

Stonewood is best known for its Flagstone data encryption hard drives, which have received NATO approval and are used by governments and the largest banking, financial and medical corporations to protect their data. Flagstone technology integrates sophisticated authentication, entire disk encryption and data storage into tamper-resistant hardware that safeguards data, providing instant data protection with no adverse effects on the computer’s performance.

In November 2007 Stonewood ran a number of successful seminars examining securing data at rest that were attended by a range of industry professionals including: ICT managers, information governance managers, IT security officers and computer network managers from the NHS and government departments.
