TandemHeart PTVA System to support US medical centre trio

CardiacAssist : 21 June, 2007  (New Product)
The TandemHeart PTVA System has been supplied to a trio of new medical centres to provide extracorporeal circulatory support to patients.
The three new centres are Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, NYU Medical Center in New York and INTEGRIS Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

More than 100 hospitals across the USA and more than 120 worldwide now use CardiacAssist's TandemHeart System for extracorporeal support.

The TandemHeart System provides extracorporeal circulatory support through a percutaneous cardiac catheterisation procedure in as little as 30 minutes. The resulting increase in blood flow is up to five litres per minute (lpm).

'We're pleased to have such prestigious cardiac care facilities join our centers of excellence that are now using the TandemHeart System', said Michael Garippa, president and CEO of CardiacAssist.

'The adoption rate for this technology continues to increase, and our clinical experience with the TandemHeart will soon surpass 1000 uses'.

Duke University Medical Center is the leading medical centre in the Southeast, with a medical school ranked among the top three in the nation.

NYU Medical Center consistently ranks among the nation's top hospitals in US News and World Report's guide to 'America's Best Hospitals', and it has been ranked among the top three overall best hospitals in the New York City Metro Area in New York Magazine's 'Best Hospitals' survey.

INTEGRIS Heart Hospital is the largest and most comprehensive cardiac programme in Oklahoma and has been named by HCIA as one of the Top 100 Heart Hospitals in the USA.

The TandemHeart System is now in use at all twenty of the top heart and heart surgery hospitals, as reported by the US News and World Report.
The TandemHeart System is designed to be used as an extracorporeal circulatory support system for procedures not requiring complete cardiopulmonary bypass.

The device has received FDA 510(k) clearance for use for up to six hours and is the only FDA approved device of its kind in the USA.
The TandemHeart System is fully reimbursed by Medicare under existing DRG codes.

The device can be placed rapidly in the cath lab or operating room, providing effective, reliable, temporary circulatory support.

To date, the TandemHeart System has been used in 28 countries at 120 different facilities by 150 different physicians.
