Telemedicine conference to be held in Edinburgh

HIMSS Analytics : 04 September, 2013  (Company News)
Edinburgh conference to address the dynamic development of mobile computing technology and the effects of this on the future of telemedicine
Telemedicine conference to be held in Edinburgh

The inaugural European Telemedicine Conference will be held in Edinburgh, Scotland from October 29-30, 2013 and will be jointly hosted by NHS 24’s Scottish Centre for Telehealth and Telecare and the Scottish Government’s Joint Improvement Team.

Tablets like the iPad are on the verge of changing telemedicine forever and are thus anticipated to create a global telemedicine-dedicated device and software market of nearly €2 billion by 2018. Telemedicine offers a means to extend clinical services beyond the hospital. It provides a way to initiate a two-way communication with a patient outside the hospital, forever changing the doctor - patient relationship. In doing so, telemedicine has an enormous potential of reducing hospital visits and thereby relieving national healthcare budgets.

The European Telemedicine Conference event will focus on practical telemedicine,
telecare and mobile health implementations, best practices, research, development and innovation. The leader of the Scottish National Party and First Minister of Scotland Alex Salmond will open the conference with a keynote followed by leading experts in telemedicine from around the world.

The objective of the conference is to create a platform for all stakeholders to share success stories and challenges cross borders with the objective to create high-quality, integrated and sustainable health and social care solutions for Europe.

The conference will attract attendees who are health and social care managers and practitioners, third-party and independent sector care providers, IT professionals, government & regional decision makers, academics, researchers, innovators and vendors.
