Verathon unveils child friendly bladder volume instrument

Verathon : 12 March, 2008  (New Product)
Verathon has launched a new Small Child Mode for the portable BladderScan BVI 9400 bladder volume instrument with patent-pending NeuralHarmonics Technology.
Small Child Mode enables health care providers to measure bladder volume non-invasively on children weighing less than 60 pounds and standing less than 48 inches high with the same instrument used for adult patients.

BladderScan portable Ultrasound instruments, the gold standard in bladder volume measurement, help diagnose urinary retention, evaluate common urological conditions and prevent unnecessary catheterisation.

The newest BladderScan in the line, the BVI 9400, now with Small Child Mode, allows Urologists, Primary Care physicians and Acute Care facilities to standardise on one bladder volume instrument for all patient age groups.

The BladderScan BVI 9400 also incorporates NeuralHarmonics Technology. The patent-pending advance in the science of Ultrasound helps improve both speed and accuracy in bladder volume measurement.

NeuralHarmonics Technology helps achieve previously unattainable differentiation of the bladder, urine and hypo-echogenic regions such as the uterus, thereby reducing error and minimising uncertainty in measurements of bladder function.

'The new BVI 9400 with Small Child Mode and NeuralHarmonics Technology offers health care providers a comprehensive bladder volume instrument for their practice or facility,' said Gerald McMorrow, chief executive officer, founder and chairman of the board of Verathon. 'The BVI 9400 not only measures bladder function for patients of all age groups, it also offers the ease of use, reliability and advanced technology health care providers have come to expect from the BladderScan brand.'

Unlike other Ultrasound machines the BVI 9400 is quick and easy to use; no sonographer is required. When the scan button is pressed, the instrument measures ultrasonic reflections on multiple planes inside the body and produces a three dimensional image. Based on this image, the BVI 9400 calculates and displays the bladder volume on the colour console, and offers aiming assistance (if needed) to the user, on both the probe and the console.

The user can select either a hard copy print out from the machine or an electronic Medical record (EMR) related report. To facilitate training, both a ‘user’ video and a ‘NeuralHarmonics Technology’ video are provided on the device.

Customers who have already purchased BVI 9400 instruments may upgrade the software on their devices to include Small Child Mode using HIPAA-compliant ScanPoint online technology from Verathon.

Besides receiving software upgrades, ScanPoint subscribers enjoy quick, easy online calibration of their BladderScan instruments and the ability to view, save and print bladder measurement reports.
