Macclesfield District General Hospital plans to open new dedicated breast and gynaecology centre

East Cheshire NHS Trust : 15 August, 2012  (Company News)
On Monday 3 September 2012 East Cheshire NHS Trust plans to open The Victoria Centre, a new dedicated Breast and Gynaecology Unit at Macclesfield District General Hospital which will benefit the people of Cheshire and Stockport.
The centre is located on the ground floor of New Alderley House on the Macclesfield District General Hospital site.

The dedicated unit will provide modern, high quality services for the diagnosis, screening and treatment of breast cancer and outpatient facilities for a wide range of gynaecology problems, utilising the latest equipment and techniques all under one roof.

The new purpose built unit at Macclesfield District General Hospital replaces existing breast care and gynaecology facilities at the hospital, which until now have been spread out over a number of hospital floors in areas shared with other services. This meant that breast and gynaecology patients had to undress and dress repeatedly as they made their way through the hospital for different types of clinical examinations and assessments making the patient’s experience tiresome and long.

The new unit brings together all of the breast and gynaecology outpatient and screening services and has five consultation rooms, two rooms dedicated to digital mammography and a further two rooms for breast ultrasound, there is also a dedicated prosthesis fitting area and a quiet room. The unit is designed to make attending a regular examination as anxiety free as possible, with the best possible patient care when its needed most in the right place.

Gill Bird, Critical Care Divisional Manager at East Cheshire NHS Trust said: “Our aim was to create a dedicated site for our breast and gynaecology services that will provide a specialist service for the people of Cheshire, with excellent facilities to provide the efficiency and high quality of care that they expect and deserve.”

Kath Senior, Director of Nursing, Quality and Performance said: "We are delighted to be opening the Victoria Centre in early September. Moving all our breast care and gynaecology outpatient services together under one roof will make it easier for all our breast surgeons, cancer doctors, radiologists, radiographers and breast care nurses to provide more integrated diagnostics and care for our patients in Cheshire.  Its been an ambition of the trust and its clinicians for sometime - the development of the hospital estate following the sale of the older part of the site has enabled this exciting patient focused development."
